Monday CD Pick of the Day

Bing Ji Ling
Fire & Ice Cream
Kreme Kul Records
Mssr. Ji Ling's music is described in his promotional materials as "equal parts Prince, Steve Wonder and Sly Stone," but let me assure you that this description comes through no stretch of the imagination. San Francisco's Bing Ji Ling churns out 11 servings of the "smoothest white-boy funk and soul" on this disc, enough to satisfy every type of listener.
At first glance, one might misinterpret Bing's funky wardrobe and tongue-in-cheek approach. Let there be no doubt, though -- any track featuring Bing Ji Ling I have heard in the past is so filthy-funky at its core that you've had to leave a window open when listening to it. Some of the BJL songs that i've freaked out about in the past have been
- His cover of AC/DC's "You Shook Me All Night Long" on the Ubiquity Records Rewind 3 disc
- His guest appearance on DJ Greyboy's "So Good" track on the Soul Mosaic disc
Here are some free BJL downloadable tracks, thanks to the people at IODA promotions!
